Novelist Majorcan Catalan. Born in Ciutat de Mallorca in the midst of an aristocratic family. He studied medicine at several Spanish universities, specializing in psychiatry in Paris. His beginnings were in Castilian literature, although the idea of satirizing the conservative literary circles islanders and their own social class, led him to use Catalan in his first novel, Mort de dama (1931), a story about the decline of the aristocracy Mallorca.

Maria del Mar Bonet i Verdaguer(born 1947) is a Balearic singer from the island of Majorca. She studied ceramics in the school of arts, but eventually she decided to dedicate herself to song. She arrived in Barcelona in 1967, where she began to sing with the group Els Setze Jutges. She has published many albums of folk music in Catalan, in spite of the prohibitions during Francisco Franco's dictatorship. She has performed throughout Spain as well as in Turkey, the former USSR, Tunisia, Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela, Mexico, and the U.S.

Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, Mallorca 1957) is the living artist more valued nowadays. In a journey to Paris in 1970 found out “art brut” that influences a lot in his first works. His successful career starts in the 80’s participating in the “Bienal” of Sao Paolo, Brasil and the “Documenta” in Kassel, Germany.

Ramon Llull (Majorca, 1232-1316) wrote more than three hundred works in Catalonian, Latin and Arabic (So far no manuscripts at all have been found in this language). He is also considered to be the first author to have used Catalonian rather than Latin in his literary prose as a normal form of communication and as a useful instrument in cultural expression. Ramon Llull managed to overcome the linguistic situation of the times that favoured the use of Latin and Provençal in philosophic and literary texts.
