Grape Harvest festival Festes des Vermar, Binissalem Mallorca

Every September during the grape harvest, the village of Binissalem celebrates their patrón feasts known as “Festa des Vermar” (grave harvest festival) due its wine tradition. In XIX the French writer Jules Verne praise the local wines that nowadays you can buy with the denomination of origin Binissalem – Mallorca. The “Festa des Vermar” is recognized as one of the more ancient feast of this kind in Spain.

During 9 days, especially the last weekend of September everything turns around wine. The feast startwith the reception of “vermadors” (male harvesters) and “vermadores” (female harvesters) at the town council, previously chosen by people voting. Going on a very complete program of activities with contests of glosadors (local poets that reinvented texts), chess, painting, passacaglia, fairs, decorated chariots, wine tasting courses, etc. In these dates the village is plenty of color and joy that pull in lots of visitors.
